316
Austenitic stainless steel
Description
316 stainless steel is an austenitic chromium-nickel-molybdenum stainless steel known for its superior corrosion resistance, especially against chlorides, acids, and marine environments.
It is often called “marine-grade stainless steel” because it performs significantly better than 304 stainless steel in saltwater or chemical processing environments. The addition of molybdenum (Mo), approx 2–3%) greatly improves its resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion.
316 stainless steel can also be supplied to petrochemical standards including ASTM A193 B8M & ASTM A194 8M in both solution annealed (class 1) and strain hardnened (class 2) condition
