Dry-film lubricants (DFLs)
Dry-film lubricants (DFLs) or solid-film lubricants (SFLs) are specialist materials designed to reduce friction, prevent wear and extend the life of critical components operating in harsh environments.
These materials are deployed when fluid lubricants could freeze, vaporise or cause degradation.
Long-term lubrication, protection and performance
Dry-film lubricants or solid-film lubricants are deployed in components, assets and applications required to operate in extreme environments, including high and low temperatures, high and low pressures and where liquids and oils must be avoided.
At the LoneStar Group, we use advanced coating technologies to create a solid, long-lasting lubricating layer on key components to provide consistent, maintenance-free performance where oils and greases fail.
Molybdenum Disulphide (Everslik)
Molybdenum Disulphide coating is used for its dry self-lubrication properties. This coating also possesses excellent resistance to corrosion and oxidation in aggressive, moisture-exposed environments. Molybdenum Disulphide’s performance longevity can be further extended by applying it onto previously phosphated surfaces.
Molybdenum Disulphide (Everslik) is available in two grades.
Everslik 1201
- Solvent-based epoxy system
- Inherent hydrophobic properties
- Thermally cured coating
- Extreme toughness, flexibility and durability
- Repels water and other process fluids
- Outstanding chemical resistance
- Superior corrosion resistance
Everslik 1301
- Specially bonded SFL formulated for the heavy-duty industrial market
- Provides good lubricity and corrosion resistance to prevent galling and seizing.
When 1201 is used as an undercoat and 1301 is applied as a topcoat, components will benefit from additional durability to further extend protection and performance.
Molykote
The LoneStar Group also coats in Molykote, a brand of high-performance lubricants developed by DuPont that is widely used in industrial, automotive and aerospace applications.
These lubricants are engineered to reduce friction, wear and corrosion under extreme conditions, including high loads, wide temperature ranges, and chemically aggressive environments.
Molykote products include greases, pastes, anti-friction coatings, oils and dispersions. Many formulations incorporate solid lubricants such as molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂), graphite, or PTFE. These solid lubricants form a protective film on metal surfaces, enhancing load-carrying capacity and reducing metal-to-metal contact.
Molykote coatings are particularly effective in dry lubrication scenarios or where re-lubrication is impractical. The brand is known for its reliability in applications requiring long-term lubrication, low friction coefficients and resistance to fretting, galling and seizure.
