Non-destructive testing (NDT) and examination (NDE)

The LoneStar Group delivers industry-leading non-destructive testing and examination capabilities to limit in-service failure of mission-critical components.

ISO 17025 accredited independent testing facilities

The LoneStar Group is strengthened by in-house independent ISO 17025-accredited test laboratories strategically placed across key global marketplaces. Within these state-of-the-art facilities, we evaluate mission-critical materials, products and components for customers who seek the highest possible national and international standards, including ISO/DIN/ASTM/ASME/JIS/BS specifications.

Our NDT/NDE services include

Dye-penetrant inspection (DPI), magnetic particle inspection (MPI), ultrasonic testing (UT) and positive material identification (PMI).

Right-first-time deployment

Our approved and accredited components are delivered promptly with full certification packs to suit customer requirements.

Worldwide integrity

Strengthened by our unique global network of independent test laboratories, we ensure component and compliance certainty within all markets.

Dye-penetrant inspection (DPI)

Applied to non-magnetic materials and uses the capillary action of a coloured dye with a developer to highlight any defects within the material.

Magnetic particle inspection (MPI)

A solution with fluorescent magnetic particles is released around magnetised parts. Particles concentrate around defects, as seen by ultra-violet light.

Ultrasonic testing (UT)

UT enables accurate internal inspection without cutting, breaking or damaging raw materials. This method uses high-frequency sound waves from 0.5-10 MHz to detect defects such as inclusions, cracks or voids.

Positive material inspection (PMI)

PMI is used to verify if the chemical composition of a material conforms and matches the specified grades. Most PMI is carried out using x-ray fluorescence (XRF) that uses x-rays to excite atoms in the material and measures emitted fluorescent energy resulting in the identification of Cr, Ni Mo, Cu Ti and Nb elements.
